“But First, Let Me Take A Selfie”
As it turns out Oxford Dictionaries has declared the word of 2013 to be, wait for it… selfie (selfy, selfies)
Selfie: A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website: occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself every day isn’t necessary.
I’ve had so much fun with this term… the kids and I will be out and they will ask for something and I’ve said…“first let me take a selfie.”
It makes me laugh and sometimes you just need to enjoy the goofy side of life, right? That’s what this blog post is all about and I hope today it brings a smile to your face.
You can read their original article here, it shares the history of the word “selfie” which was traced back to 2002. The word “selfie” was even added to the dictionary in September 2013.
So Keywords Are Important Hey?
Yes they are.
We all think we have to pick the killer keywords, the right ones, the exact phrase that’s gonna bring us all this traffic but actually it’s not necessary to paralyze yourself.
Enter Lynn, she’s a super affiliate and knows her stuff. You need to listen to what she says because when it comes to us entrepreneurs, our business depends on this stuff.
We either make sales or we don’t so it’s all about personal experience here from a woman who has been a super affiliate for many years.
Here’s what Lynn said about keywords:
Personally, I don’t use KEI or any other numbers/metrics. I’m simply looking for keyword phrases, wording and verbage, and search volume. There is no magic number on that, by the way. If your market is searching for it, you should be addressing it – period.
I personally knew about long tail keywords for many years now but Lynn’s statement above definitely released me from being picky about which ones to choose, you can get really crazy with it all. 🙂
This should release you too to get going with some keywords 😉 I plan to drum up some good ones in the near future and apply them where I’d like.
The funny thing about me is that I feel I have more instinct with it, I plan out specific keywords and then make a game of it with myself to get in the top 3 listings of Google with it.
It’s a little thing that challenges me and it gets me up there, fun!
But first, let me get back to our word according to Oxford Dictionaries of 2013… “Selfie”
On the personal side, I poke fun at myself for taking my own selfies. It probably takes me 100 or so to truly get the ONE that I like.
Remember This Famous Selfie?
Ellen Degeneres did a selfie at the 2014 Oscars with some other actor friends. It was probably set up but definitely a fun one that got a ton of attention.
Apparently it was the most “retweeted” on Twitter and even broke President Obama’s record. Cool beans.
If only Bradley’s arm was longer… (lol!)
We Even Did Our Own Selfie
I didn’t realize it at the time but this was a pretty funny selfie that we took. I wanted to mark the occasion of this new team of really smart ladies who know some cool things about marketing online 😉
It was a happy day for me, I am so thrilled to be using my passions to help at my home church.
In The Moment Is Much Better
You see if I would have thought about a good keyword strategy, I would have blogged about this long ago and “in the moment” when this was all going down around the Oscar buzz or when all the chatter about selfie being added to the dictionary 😉
But this post came about for one main reason, I found the following video and it made me laugh and share it.
I figured I would just share it as a status update on Facebook but instead figured I could have some fun with it here and maybe help you lighten up on the keyword strategies you think you need to have in place.
Selfies Anonymous Parody
I’ll leave you with this video, the one that started it all. I hope it brings a smile to your face today.
PS. If you want to learn more about how I run my online business it’s very unique. I’m now in my 10th year of affiliate marketing and this is what I’m personally studying to better myself with it.
PPS. But first, let me take a selfie (lol!)
