Recently I was looking for another speaker for my online conference and came across Adam Gauer who is a new friend of mine and has been attending my church for many years. I watched a couple of his videos and just knew in my heart that he needed to be part of my next online conference.
But then he posted this on his Facebook wall…
“When what you believe infiltrates your behavior, that process creates your foundation”
I heard that just now and the first thing that came out of my mouth was “Whoooooooooo Sherman!!!” Why? Because it was one of those “light bulb” moments that made me realize 3 things:
1. It’s not simply hearing something that creates progress. Hearing (faith) is important, but it’s in the hearing and then doing… believing it and then actually allowing it to infiltrate your behavior (your “doing”).
2. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU BELIEVE because this works both ways. Positively and negatively. If what you believe then infiltrates your behavior and that process creates the foundation you are building on, then you better make sure that what you believe will ultimately create the foundation you desire to stand on. LET THAT SINK IN FOR A SECOND. It’s like a seed. You don’t have to be a genius to look at an apple seed and know what you will get from that if you plant it, water it and take care of it. You’ll get an apple tree. Beliefs are the same. Consider before you adopt a belief what it will produce. What final product is the seed of that belief? Then pick beliefs based on what they will produce in you. Pick the ones that will produce the YOU that you desire to be. DON’T just adopt a belief and then wait to see what happens as you foster it and it grows. That right there is some risky business!
3. It is the PROCESS that builds the foundation. The struggle you go through along the way. The things you deal with as you choose your beliefs and they infiltrate your actions (behavior). That is what creates your story. The foundation that you will stand upon moving forward. So NEVER stunt the growth that comes from the process by resisting the change that comes through the difficulties. Let the change complete it’s work in you. And through that process you will become equipped to tell your story and change the world with it.
I knew in my gut that I needed to speak with him sooner, why delay growth right?
I hope it helps you as well, I am doing all I can to bring people to you that reflect the heart here and also help me personally too.
